860年，西法蘭克國王查理二世任命杜伯安一世為佛蘭德伯爵。979年，布魯塞爾正式建立。1302年，弗拉芒人在金馬刺之戰中擊敗了法國騎兵。1328年，法國人在卡塞勒之役後，確立了對佛蘭德的統治。1425年，魯汶大學建立。1468年，勃艮第公爵兼併列日。

Due to Belgium's general lack of historical IG leaders and its  Wealth Voting law, the starting interest groups  in government can vary. Typically, the starting interest groups in government include two or three of the Intelligentsia, Landowners, Catholic Church, or the Petite Bourgeoisie; occasionally, the Armed Forces are in government also. The Intelligentsia and Industrialists are typically members of or want to join the Liberal Party; while the Catholic Church and Petite Bourgeoisie are almost always members of the Catholic Party; the Landowners and Armed Forces also often join the Catholic Party.

 In opposition, the Rural Folk are nearly always in the Agrarian Party; the Industrialists are also typically in opposition, either as members of the Liberal Party or the Free Trade Party.

The Trade Unions are always  marginalized and, occasionally, the Armed Forces are as well.
