Norway has spent centuries under Danish and Swedish rule, but now dreams of sovereignty. What will it take for Norway to win its independence?

Norway has a long history of being ruled by its Nordic brothers, 丹麦 and 瑞典. After the Treaty of Kiel in 1814, a "union" between Sweden and Norway was established, but was little more than Sweden becoming overlord of the Norwegian fjords. Norway is an agrarian country through and through, having not seen much of the industrialization other nations so eagerly chase. Despite being under Swedish rule, Norway enjoys democratic elections, guaranteed by its constitution, which is celebrated every year on 17 May. The Norwegian people yearn for independence however, wanting to be in charge of their own fate and not be tied to foreign monarchs in Copenhagen or Stockholm.

Politics

As Norway is a personal union of 瑞典, Norway is ruled by the Swedish king, Karl Johan Bernadotte, who supports the Aristocracy of Officials. Norway is unique from Sweden in that it has Census Suffrage, making it the only Scandinavian country to have elections at game start. The next election is set for 8 November 1838.

Norway starts with the Aristocracy of Officials and Armed Forces in government as members of the Høyre. The Trade Unions are marginalized, while the remaining interest groups are in opposition. The Rural Folk lead the Farmer's Party, while the Church of Norway leads the Venstre. The Intelligentsia and Petite Bourgeoisie join the Venstre, while the Industrialists may join them or lead the Free-minded Venstre.
