Each country has a limited number of slots for companies. Slots are gained by researching certain society technologies, starting with Corporate Charters. Each Society technology directly following Corporate Charters adds 1 additional company slot up to a maximum of 5 slots upon researching
Macroeconomics. An additional company slot can be unlocked by enacting
Laissez-Faire.
Each company has certain requirements before it can be established, typically building a minimum level of one of its associated buildings. Flavored companies tend to have stricter requirements, such as constructing the requisite building in a specific state.
When a company is established, it cannot be disbanded for five years. Similarly, after a company is disbanded, it cannot be reestablished for four years.
增益
Buildings associated with an established company enjoy +10% throughput as well as +25% construction efficiency when building them. All countries gain a scaled bonus based on their prestige rank, calculated as [math]\displaystyle{ 5 \cdot (1 - \tfrac{\text{rank}}{\text{num of countries}}) }[/math]. For example, 塞拉利昂 starts at rank 162, exactly at the halfway point of all starting countries, and it has a starting prestige bonus of +2.5%. The top ten ranked countries always have +5%, as well as an additional +0.5% per rank up to a total +10% throughput and construction efficiency for the Rank #1 country.
If a building is associated with more than one company in a country, then each additional company adds a ×0.33 modifier on the throughput and construction efficiency bonuses. For example, if a building is associated with two companies, it receives 150% of the normal company bonuses rather than 200% – that is, +15% throughput and +37.5% construction efficiency rather than +20% and +50%. This also applies to the prestige bonus.
繁荣度
Companies start with 0 prosperity. Companies gain +5 prosperity every week while the average productivity of all associated buildings in the country is at least 25% higher than the average productivity of all buildings in the world or an absolute productivity of more than 25, and prosperity decreases by −5 each week while productivity is lower than 25% of the global average or an absolute productivity of less than 5. A company's prosperity bonus is active while prosperity is at least 100. Prosperity can rise to a maximum of 200 and fall to a minimum of 0. If a company is disbanded and later re-established, it starts with 0 prosperity again.

As such they are heavily associated with certain countries, but those tied to states are not technically limited to specific countries as in theory any country can conquer any state.
